Make sure that you bring a bottle which won’t weigh your bag down too much.  Over-packing only leads to stress and loathing having to get around from place to place with a weight on your back.

Wash Your Hands

Try to wash your hands frequently throughout your trip.  Since you’ll be going through a lot of public places from the airplane to opening doors in various locations, your hands will come into contact with lots of germs that could potentially get you ill. If you don’t have access to running water at all times then carry around a hand sanitizer in your pocket.  This way no matter where you are you know that you’ll be able to have clean hands.

Depending on where you are in the world you may be eating foods which you aren’t used to.  Your stomach may be extra sensitive and react to the new foods in adverse ways. Additionally, you may find that there are different sanitary conditions.  Always make sure that you’re eating in places that come recommended.  Having food poisoning is one of the worst things that can happen to you on your trip.  It’s best to take whatever precautions possible to avoid it happening.

Get Plenty Of Sleep

Running yourself thin by not getting enough sleep will start to have an effect on your immune system. Even though you may have a lot of activities that you want to fit into your schedule, try to make a point of getting enough sleep every night.  This way your body will be able to recharge itself every night. Try to get at least 8 hours every night.  This may mean having to go to bed earlier, so plan your schedule accordingly.
